Won by Holly Kneller (bottom right) for her design 'BOTANIC' (left)
Holly Kneller - BA (Hons) Printed Textile Design, Birmingham City University. Holly, originally from Wolverhampton, has created the winning wallcovering for 2011. Her design is part of 'BOTANIC', one of the key trends forecast by Global Color Research. Holly explained " Even though the Botanic trend is for autumn and winter, it has such a fresh, bright feeling, full of lush colour incorporating florals within a clinical setting. I sought inspiration from the idea of growth and the formation of bacteria, with a sense of health and from visits to various botanical gardens in San Francisco as well as locally. I explored mark-making techniques using bold colours, and different mediums to create floral like shapes. I then proceeded to digitally add petals and flower heads to maintain the trend, ensuring that the design remained uncomplicated by using expanses of white background.
The main design influences in my life are my family - everyone is interested in art and travel. My home also resembles a gallery ; every wall is covered in art. I've travelled to many countries seeing how different cultures interpret design, from totally decadent interiors of Venice to the wonderful clean lines of Art Deco buildings in Miami.
Through studying design, and particularly printed textiles, I realised that interiors are where my future lies I have a healthy obsession with wallpaper design and aspire to produce hand and digitally printed wall coverings. I love the idea of creating something for a person’s home or social environment, affecting their everyday life in a positive way "
We printed Hollys' Botanic design onto our wallcovering., and this is available exclusively through Tektura. If you'd like to have samples, or would like to know more about creating your own unique design, please contact us.
